Red Rock Resort
On April 18th 2006, Red Rock Resort in Summerlin opened its doors. Named after the local Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, it was built at a cost of $925 million.
It has a contemporary design involving a desert-themed influence, although there are touches of old style Las Vegas incorporating luxurious chandeliers, the one in the Lucky Bar features more than 1.6 million crystals alone.
The casino floor is more than 118k sq. ft. and the hotel opened with just over 400 rooms before subsequent expansions. The hotel tower was initially proposed to be 23-storys and 300 ft. in height, but was reduced to 198 ft. in the revised planning application after local opposition.
More than 3000 people attended the preview evening which saw Sting give a concert, and a firework show from the top of the tower at midnight.
We have the Grand Opening promotional material that was sent out preserved in our collections.
