Ammonites

A Discovery Saturday workshop with Vanessa Maciel

Join us for an educational, hands-on experience at a special Discovery Saturday. This week, we’re looking at ammonites, a crucial part of the diet of our state fossil, the ichthyosaur. Explorers of all ages will get the chance to hold a real ammonite fossil and make an ammonite pendant at our fossil workshop.

The fossil workshop is led by Vanessa Maciel. Born in Ocotlan, Jalisco Mexico, Vanessa developed a passion for traditional arts at a young age. Her artistic interests and talents drove her to the Instituto Cultural Cabañas in Guadalajara where she studied Cartonería (papier mâché), a folk-art tradition which uses paper and engrudo (glue made from flour and water).

Supplies are limited, so we suggest a $5 donation to participate. Payment will be taken at the time of the event.
