History of Communication

Nevadans have made a habit out of finding innovative ways to communicate. From telegraphing our state constitution during the Civil War to online gaming, Nevada has always used communication technology to its benefit.

With the History of Communication Museum in a Boxes, students will have an opportunity to explore different forms of communication like rock writing, telegraphs, typewriters, cameras, primary documents, and digital technology while learning about their role in the history of our state and our country. 

These boxes include an array of objects and activities that allow students to experience the different types of communication technologies from the past.

History of Communication #1: Nevada Pre-1900 

This Museum in a box illustrates the different types of communication found throughout Nevada prior to 1900. Students will learn about rock writing, take penmanship lessons, how the telegraph helped Nevada to become a state in 1864, and explore typing on a typewriter. 

History of Communication #2: Nevada After 1800

The second installment to our History of Communication Museum in a Box series will show students how the digital age came to be through hands-on experience with the introduction of radios, telephones, early viewfinders, movies and cameras.
