Ichthyosaur Fossils

A Discovery Saturday workshop with Vanessa Maciel

With new activities each week, Discovery Saturdays offer a fun, interactive way to learn about Nevada’s natural and human history. This week, explorers of all ages can learn about Nevada’s state fossil, the ichthyosaur. Join us for an educational, hands-on experience, including ichthyosaur replicas and a papier mâché fossil workshop.

The ichthyosaur workshop is led by Vanessa Maciel. Born in Ocotlan, Jalisco Mexico, Vanessa developed a passion for traditional arts at a young age. Her artistic interests and talents drove her to the Instituto Cultural Cabañas in Guadalajara where she studied Cartonería (papier mâché), a folk-art tradition which uses paper and engrudo (glue made from flour and water).

Supplies are limited, so we suggest a $5 donation to participate. Payment will be taken at the time of the event.
