The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas offers volunteer roles across education programs, visitor services, galleries, and seasonal events. Roles vary by schedule and activity level. Training is provided, and volunteers may select one or more roles based on interest and availability.

Most roles take place during regular public hours. Some opportunities focus on weekday preparation or seasonal programming.

Education Programs

Discovery Saturday Program Prep

This role supports Discovery Saturday family programs through weekday preparation. Volunteers help assemble crafts and materials in advance. Classroom assistance on Saturdays is not currently needed, but prep support is welcome.

Field Trip Assistant

As a Field Trip Assistant, you will help Education staff welcome school groups, guide students from their buses to the museum, and provide a brief orientation that includes museum expectations. Flexibility and a positive attitude are important, as school schedules may shift. There may be opportunities to assist with more in-depth tours depending on experience and comfort level.

Hands On Cart Attendant

As a Hands On Cart Attendant, you will engage visitors of all ages through objects and activities during public hours and programs. Carts rotate based on program needs and volunteer interests. Training is provided on all materials and activities. This role focuses on friendly engagement and active learning.

Visitor Services and Museum Galleries

Front Desk Attendant

As a Front Desk Attendant, you will serve as a primary point of contact for visitors. Duties include answering questions, providing directions, assisting guests with appointments or museum business, and supporting guest flow. Staff support and front desk guides are always available. When time allows, volunteers are encouraged to become familiar with gallery topics.

Gallery Attendant / Greeter

As a Gallery Attendant, you’ll welcoming visitors in our museum galleries by greeting visitors, answer questions and share knowledge as you help guests navigate and engage with our exhibits. This role supports daily visitor experience and familiarity with gallery information.

Gallery Guide

As a Gallery Guide, you’ll lead in-depth public tours focused on museum galleries and themes related to Nevada history, science, and collections. Tour development is flexible and based on your interests, background, and availability. This role is well suited for volunteers interested in interpretation, storytelling, and public speaking. Additional training is required.
