Volunteers are a vital part of the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas. Their time and dedication help bring Nevada’s stories to life. Volunteers greet guests, assist with educational programs, support special events, and contribute behind the scenes in collections, exhibits, and research.

We offer a welcoming environment, flexible training, and ongoing opportunities throughout the year. Volunteers receive a museum orientation and department-specific training. Most volunteer shifts are scheduled Thursdays through Mondays during public hours. Some roles may be project-based or seasonal.

Education Programs

Education volunteers play an important role in welcoming school groups and helping create a smooth, engaging visit for K–12 students. Duties may include guiding small groups through the galleries, supporting hands-on learning activities, preparing materials, assisting with classroom or auditorium setups, and helping with student flow throughout the museum. Training is provided, and most field trips take place in the mornings on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Events and Special Programs

Event volunteers support a wide range of public programs designed for visitors of all ages. Opportunities may include helping with family activity stations, staffing check-in tables, assisting with line or crowd management, and providing general guest support. Volunteers are needed most during weekends, holidays, and seasonal festivals such as Discovery Saturdays and annual celebrations.

Gallery Guides & Public Tours

Volunteers in this role provide a welcoming presence in the galleries and help enhance the visitor experience. Responsibilities include greeting guests, answering questions about current exhibits, and leading or assisting with public tours. Some volunteers may also support adult group visits or help with informal interpretation. Orientation and optional tour training are provided.

Seasonal & Project-Based Opportunities

Some volunteer roles are tied to specific projects, short-term assignments, or seasonal needs. These may include tasks such as exhibit preparation, archival support, or helping with major event days. Scheduling is flexible and based on project timelines. These roles are ideal for volunteers who prefer occasional or behind-the-scenes work.
