Updating Our Geologic Story in the Galleries

The museum would like to say thank you to local experts who participated in updating our Geologic Story exhibit in the permanent gallery.

Reaching out to experts within our community provides opportunities for long lasting partnerships and benefits the museum in many ways. Long-time volunteer Pamela Prim, a UNLV graduate in geology and currently a master’s student at Johns Hopkins museum studies program, Dr. Steve Rowland of UNLV, William Durbin and Garrett Wake from the Division of Mines all contributed to make this project possible.
The goal was to provide a framework for the rock and mineral specimens on display making it easier for visitors to understand Nevada’s geology. This required coming up with a new design while working with the permanent exhibit structures, editing the main text, and adding hands-on elements to enhance the learning experience. The best part was exploring Southern Nevada to find the right geological specimens with volunteers!
Stay tuned for a future exhibit completion announcement!
