Nevada State Museum Las Vegas honored as ‘best of the best’
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Nevada State Museum Las Vegas has been recognized as the “best of the best” museum at the TMG Entertainment Network’s 25th Silver State Awards.
The awards program honors and recognizes excellence and exemplary achievements by individuals and entities in Nevada and winners are selected via online voting as a “people’s choice” award. Awards are presented in seven categories including Culinary, Women’s, Latino, Journalism, Sports, Entertainment and “Best of the Best.” More than 82,000 votes were cast this year.
“The staff of the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas works hard to provide top-notch exhibits and quality programming for the public,” museum director Dennis McBride said. “We’re very proud to have been recognized with a 2019 Silver State Award as ‘Best of the Best’ of Nevada museums.”
First opened at Lorenzi Park in 1982, Nevada State Museum Las Vegas moved to its current location on the Las Vegas Springs Preserve in 2011. Its mission is to inspire and educate a diverse public about the history and natural history of the Silver State.
The state-of-the-art facility features 70,000 square feet of exhibit, library, collection storage and public space. Exhibits tell a complete story of the Silver State, from early prehistoric times through early settlers and influencers to the rise of Las Vegas as entertainment capital of the world.
The Silver State Awards ceremony at the Westgate, Las Vegas also honored former Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael Cherry with the Excellence in Service Award; former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid with the Williams Andrews Clark Lifetime Achievement Award; former Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval with the Jim Rogers Spirit of Education Award; and longtime Las Vegas banker, community volunteer and philanthropist Don Snyder with the Humanitarian of the Year Award.
The Nevada State Museum Las Vegas is located at 309 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
